Time Spirals – piano solo

“Time Spirals” (2006) for solo piano – 6’45”.  The extreme use of chromaticism and the fixation on the perfect fourth are hallmarks of this work.  The opening section rarely has a measure that does not feature both.    The second section introduces sequential patterns of thirty-second notes, setting up a key change.  The material in the new key alternates between a slower tempo and the thirty-second-note patterns.  The third section returns to the opening chromaticism, follows it with slower material from the second section, and then turns the chromaticism upside down.
