Fantasy in Chartreuse and Kelly Green

For String Quartet

PROGRAM NOTES:
This single-movement work depicts the energy and vibrancy of early spring. It begins in g minor with driving rhythms in groups of three plus two plus three in the lower strings. At measure 13, the main theme, only four measures long, is first stated by the violins. This starts the A section. Each successive entry of the four-measure theme begins on a different pitch and uses a different instrumental combination. I have kept the theme short and varied in pitch to symbolize the ubiquitous growth that characterizes springtime.
